  • @ShotokanKarateMD Yes: good sparring, though you should probably not used your Judo so much on the students as they don't seem able to defend it at all and it becomes a crutch after awhile (basically you can clinch whenever you want as a get out of jail free card). I don't know why you labelled this full contact, but you definitely have skills and it looks like a good school.

  • @TheShinobi32 There is really no need to create new styles....I have found it more fun to have a base style and then cross train in other systems to better round out skills. Traditionally we have practiced shotokan and then for a portion of each class, we would work on techniques from others.

  • @Ronin6575 Well if you were still young and you know all that you could have made your own style and combined all of that and the point i was trying to make is in taekwondo the full contact sparring is rougher than shotokan and alot of other styles of karate or kung fu because you get hit alot harder and you can get kicked in the head some people get knocked out in competition the good thing about shotokan and hapkido sparring is you can use grappling witch makes it more real.

  • @TheShinobi32 OK, I didn't mean to the death or anything....I am sure since my background was in Gojuryu, Shotokan, and Jeet Kune Do, that is somewhat diverse.

Add that to a previous background of wrestling and then later, Japanese Jiujutsu, this should suffice....and yest I would go a few rounds with a 36 year old just for kicks! Get it? Kicks?

  • @Ronin6575 You over the hill and you want to fight someone that is 36,in good shape fast and dangerous not to smart on your part and i know alot more styles than just shotokan karate and im pretty shure you can just go to some taekwondo schools and spar with there master full contact have fun with that better you than me.

  • @TheShinobi32 It is a little to late for me to do that in that I am over the hill in age now.

What masters would you recommend? I would be happy to do so if the masters are in my age group. How about you? Perhaps we could go a few rounds!

  • @nikdat I was merely offering some constructive criticism and was not trying to make fun of what was on the video....

  • @Ronin6575 Why don't you go full contact with some of the masters in taekwondo and find out.

  • just to note, as a karateka i love and respect most fighting arts, be it mma, boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, bjj and even ITF taekwondo but not WTF tho...

  • i would like to firstly say with respect, this in no way demonstrates an average to high level of kumite/sparring in karate. Good effort but i hate seeing ppl like the gentlemen below @Ronin6575 being misled by what karate has to offer. and to say that in mma we need to get out of karate way of striking even though we have a prime example in machida's striking doing extremely well in the sport.
