August 7, 2008 - Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. Avalanche seen at Victoria Glacier. Ice breaks loose after melting under mid-August sun (about 70 degrees Fahrenheit) with mostly sunny skies. The guy next to me was so impressed he drops a "Holy Sh-t" - mute sound for sensitive ears. Besides the cursing, you can hear the thunderous sound the exploding ice makes when it hits the rocks (delayed a couple seconds due to the distance).

  • Yes, you're absolutely right, and I'm wrong. Lefroy is at the left and this is a clear example of why the section in between is called the Death trap.

  • i think thats Victoria, right above the death trap.

  • In case you were wondering, that was coming off Mt Lefroy. Fairly good sized one, too.
