Virtual Learning Environments in Second Life

Description:In this presentation, we will explore the development of the UMKC Island in the online 3-D virtual environment of Second Life. This island was developed by students at UMKC for a course on virtual computing. During this presentation, we will demonstrate the integrated environment developed by the students and how it may be used by facility, staff, and students in the near future for learning, advising, socializing, and marketing. During the presentation, discussion will be focused on how 3-D virtual environments can contribute to learning and the challenges with implementation.
