"Mr. Soul" was originally recorded on 8 January 1967 at Atlantic Studios in New York with additional recording on 4 April 1967. This appearance on "Hollywood Palace" is from 1967. The unseen bass player in front is a roadie substituting for the recently deported Bruce Palmer.

    kinda reminds me of the Stones.."I can't get no Satisfaction" sorta riff..just more acidic..if you know what I mean..great freak outs..more fantastic lyrically speaking than say the Stones..more in your face type thing..

    I think a lot of people are missing Neil's inside joke entirely. It sounds to me like he's talking about how amazed he is that his fame has led to this groupie wanting to give him oral sex. He made fun of her, which hurt her feelings, but she was persistent. He was 'raised' by the praise of a fan... That's why the 'head' line is making him smile like that, because he knows what he really just said, that he hid so very cleverly. Look at those frames again. So he let her...
