First heard this song in '64 or '65. The Kingston Trio did it with the great, now deceased John Stewart on lead. It was wonderful, Then heard it by Judy Collins and she took it to another level. Then by Ian and Silvia and really discovered Ian's beautiful voice. Then by Suzy Bogus and she did a swell version of this. Fact is, it is a classic and many people have done it and well. It seems to be the kind of song that elevated the artist doing it. Beautiful story in the words.

Ian Tyson is the greatest! His beautiful voice and great song writer are incomparable. It's such a tragedy that he lost his voice. I have all of his CDs and play them whenever I travel, especially when I travel into western Canada.

When you read a comment like the one below where this guys wife talks about her brother in law in a body cast from getting run over by a bull, it just brings it all home, to me at least, how much a song can mean to people about just how real their lives are or can be. I'm a pedal steel player, and I started playing steel because of the beautiful rendition that Buddy Emmons played on Judy's recorded version of this song. Funny, how a song can affect people in so many ways. Marc Trainor.

Ian Tyson, one of the most under appreciated singers/songwriters of the last 40 years. Great songs, great singer.
