beat the retreat - a military tradition that came from the old battlefields. when the day was over and darkness fell, trumpets sound and drums would beat to call the troops back home from fighting. today it's more to do with pomp and ceremony. this one had dicky bird (the old cricket umpire) who now raises funds to help disadvantaged kids.
the summer ball celebrated American Independance Day on July 4th. Everything about it was great - food, music, entertainment, dresses, staff ... brill!!!
