Now that Knol has been taken down, does anyone know if the Google energy plan for 2030 was reproduced anywhere else?

There was a lot of opportunity, but it was missed. Take cash for clunkers, originally aimed at getting onld cars getting 15 mpg or less off the road, and requiring the new car to make 25% more than the fuel efficciency standard (so the new vehicle would need to make 28 mpg).... They changed it to allow up to 18mpg or less be traded in, to get a new car with only a slight improvement (only 4mpg improvement was required). This meant you could trade an 11mpg SUV for a 15 mpg SUV and get the cash

not enough was done in the stimulus ( a large portion of it was made into noneffective tax cuts, and some ended up in earmark giveaways, some governors turned down any stimulus money (Ohio's republican governor blocked high speed rail)) and then once the midterm elections happened, that ended any progress on energy efficiency/transmission lines/high speed rail etc

Glad to see a few years have gone by since this speech, and we've made very little progress in terms of reducing consumption of coal and oil. Wish he would give a new speech and describe what the hold up has been. Not blaming Schmidt at all, just feel a little let down that the country hasn't done more.
