  • Talkbox is what it's called.

  • @phadamblab

I suppose it depends on how old one is. :)

Now it IS usually called a talkbox.

Then many called it a mouth tube.

    Google it. :)

  • @Synthfool Um, that's just semantics. It would have functioned the exact same way as a talkbox, regardless of what it was called. Cars used to be called "gelapis," but they were still cars. Besides, the "mouth tube" is the main functioning component, so to say that they're two different things doesn't make any sense. It'd be like saying, "no that's not a guitar, that's the six-string thing with pickups!"

  • @phadamblab Exactly. I mean, how about "Stevland Hardaway Judkins uses talkbox"

Or maybe "Stevland Hardaway Morris uses talkbox"

Those were Stevie Wonder's original names.

I think it was "Jalopies" anyway and I got the point. Thanks.

  • Is this documentary available on DVD ?

  • It's not a documentary. It's a clip from an old TV show. No idea if it's available somewhere, but I doubt it.

  • @phadamblab Thank you. I already knew what a talkbox was because i have seen people like Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton use them. I suppose you could use them with anything else besides a guitar. I have only seen guitar players use the tube and keyboards players use a microphone connected to the system.

  • @hittingnote75 There are plenty of videos or forums you can find online that will correct you as well. I have both a talkbox and a vocoder (not vocoRder), so I'm pretty comfortable with how they function. If you watch any video of Zapp & Roger, you can see Roger Troutman using a TALKBOX with his synthesizer, not a vocoder. Hope you learned some things.

  • @hittingnote75 I hate to tell you that you're wrong, but you're wrong. A VOCODER is only for synthesizer, because it takes the frequency from your voice and translates it into synthesized sound. A talk box, on the other hand, takes the sounds of ANY electric instrument (guitar, bass, keyboard, synth, etc.) sends them through a quarter inch cable to a tiny compressed speaker. This compressed speaker forces the sound out through a vinyl tube, which sits in your mouth. Like Stevie is using.

  • @phadamblab Talkbox is to guitar. Vocorder is to keyboard or Synth.
