so how do you know if the jewelry is just not gold platted or hge? does the electronic tester tell you this information?

@Zalzal019 If you look at his calculations, he took the spot price of gold, divided it by 31.1034768 to convert from troy oz to grams, and then multiplied by 0.93 to get the price per ounce of pure gold. This 0.93 multiplier appears to be his cut, meaning that he pays 7% under spot price - which for scrap gold is a great deal for the seller, because the buyer must still pay for testing, overhead, assaying and/or refining.
