You should use 200BPS - this sounds MUCH BETTER ,)

@goldsphere The quarter wave is calculated considering ONLY parameters of the Secondary Coil. The primary circuit doesn't matter for calculating it.

I understand that, it would need to be retuned with either a more primary turns or larger cap bank, but a larger toroid on this coil would greatly improve the performance. Especially when you have 7kW to dump across the gap.

@hbenders3356 You're right, man! :)

How did you calculate the topload required for the quarter wave? I presume you mean for the length of wire used in the secondary as Tesla himself spoke of?
goldsphere 1 year ago
@goldsphere He has found it with the oscilloscope (34,4kHz). Anyway yes, it's based on the cable length.
And... here the teslacoil is underpowered.

@goldsphere sorry, the quarter wave is 84,4kHz

The inductance and capacitance (self capacitance plus top load) of the secondary make the quarter wave frequency. The primary tank circuit must be tuned to this to get the maximum spark length. (Technically it is tuned about 10% lower as the spark break out lowers the frequency of the secondary). If you lower the secondary frequency by adding a larger topload, you will have to adjust the primary to suit. This is what I am saying. Perhaps you could add your coil to the projects thread at 4HV.

@goldsphere But now the topload isn't tuned for the quarter wave :)
