The Empire Builder was experiencing air trouble, that is.

The train was wyed in Minot and the BNSF Dash 9 was placed on the rear after experiencing air difficulties in the ~ -15F temps. It sat there overnight for about 12 hours for some reason. That is the cause of the tardiness.

The westbound Empire Builder that struck the pedestrian outside of Chicago on December 10 and became 6 hours late because of it made up over 2 hours of the deficit and arrived just less than 4 hours late in Seattle. The train was turned in about 3 and a half hours and departed as train 8-12 some 76 minutes late. Finally, a BNSF locomotive was placed on the rear of the train, which did the trick, left for Chicago where it finally arrived the following morning, just over 15 hours late.

Wish I knew that. #8 was on time until Rugby, ND. Then it suddenly lost 12 hours.
