@h2wtechnologies yeah it depends on the encoder used and now there are even encoders that can go down to 1 nm resolution as Aerotech claims. I personally worked with 4,88nm lowest and down at that level noise is really problem so I guess 50nm is realistic for now. I was looking at these type of motors lately and they supposedly have problem because generated heat cant escape from slot and Im afraid that would have great affect on the precision (thermal expansion), how do you solve that at 50nm?

what is the closed loop precision that you can achieve with these motors

@golllub The closed loop precision depends on the resolution of the encoder used. Our standard resolution encoder is 1-micron, but it can be as large as 5-micron or as small as 50nm. The resolution chosen depends on the requirements of your application.
