Wow... How can this opera singer sing whilst lying on the floor, it can't have been easy to do that. The interpretation was really amazing and very dramatic. Now, I know why Mr. Heater wanted the whole opera to be dramatic. I could hear the lines.. Vissi d'arte... Vissi d'amore, I thought she was going to rise up to sing this dramatic aria, but no... LYING on the floor the whole time!

@Aussiejabu thanks for responding to a very special performance that the Oakland Opera audiance loved. I was happy to have had her to lead an exceptional cast. Kieth Purdy went on to have a big career in Vienna and Europe.

Thanks for this. I was amazed to find that her husband Andrew W. Smith doesn't even have a mention in Wikipedia and there are no youtube videos of him... after being a Met Baritone!!

This is the most wonderful rendition of this sublime aria I ever heard.. What a vocal and emotional personality she has on this aria...

Bravo! Wilhelmenia lives in Lexington, Kentucky with her husband Met Opera

baritone Andrew W. Smith and has sung in the major opera houses of the

world but not at the Met. Her full name now is Wilhelmenia Fernandez Smith.
