This rail line is the former Great Miami and Scioto Railroad in Hamilton, OH. A line that was once owned by Fred Stout. Today it is operated by a company called US Rail Corporation. I just happened to be in the neighborhood one day last week and noticed this engine switching the Smart Paper plant, the only customer on the line. The switch engine is a new addition to this interplant switching line and i hear it came from the Indiana Harbor Belt. The engine they had prior to this one was an ex CR, ex NS, LTEX GP15-1. I will try to get more videos of this line when i can.

  • They barley handle any cars if not any that's how slow they r

  • @blackopp24 so u said your dad works for both railserve at P&G and the this line, how many days a week does he work?? how many days a week are they switching the paper mill these days, I hardly get over to Hamilton to railfan anymore? i tried to get on railserve in dayton, ohio, but i guess they didnt wanna hire an experienced conductor with over three years shortlining experience, lol.

  • Have you ever checked out the former Conrail line to Franklin? We caught a local there back in the late 1990s and it even had a caboose. There is some street running too. I am not even sure it still exists...

  • @shawnmutant Yeah, i have been up there, back when i was a lot younger, my dad use to take office paper from his employer to one of the paper mills there for recycling. Recently ive checked on that line and have never seen a local. I think there is only two customers left in Franklin. Ive never been lucky enough to see the local that serves them.

  • @Conraildan ///send me a message to my inbox - I found a scan of an old article related to the Franklin branch/spur from an old magazine...

  • At one time I considered modeling this little railroad and have always been interested in it. Do I recall hearing that they lost the coal traffic into the plant? If I remember correctly that was half or more of the traffic, so was just wondering how many cars they're handling these days. Thanks for sharing!

  • awesome video! my dad's friend is the manager for the railroad on the kokomo division, when we met him that was the first time i ever heard of the railroad

  • i saw that by the old paper mill. the great miami engines are right next to it. also it is private property. i had to break the law to get some awesome shots.
