In his "Requiem" written in 1985, English composer John Rutter freely uses text from the traditional Latin Mass for the Dead, as well as texts from the Book of Psalms and the Burial Service of the Anglican Church. During their January 2011 concert, entitled "Aukos Dvasia" ("The Spirit of Sacrifice") the Dainava Lithuanian Chorale performed those English texts in Lithuanian.
"Lux aeterna" ("Perpetual Light"), the seventh and final movement of Rutter's Requiem includes words from the 1662 "Book of Common Prayer" Burial Service ("I heard a voice from heaven...") and the communion chant from the Tridentine Requiem Mass. The soloist is Rima Birutis.
The concert was held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicago, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the killings of unarmed civilians by the Soviets at the Vilnius TV Tower on January 13th, 1991. Their sacrifice ultimately led to the restoration of Lithuania's independence.
