. . . but it was all so much fun!
I was among only 70 attendees of the 2010 ELAC PARIS annual meeting, which took place from May 13 until the 18th, and ended with this lovely bash thrown by Sir Peter Westmacott, British Ambassador to France. The garden and house are sublime, and stuffed with art treasures and lovely furniture -- there's even a proper Throne Room for "You-Know-Who!" Hee hee!
Did you ever wonder what's behind those stone facades near the Elysée Palace, all protected by chain link barriers and armed patrols? Have a look and see! Enjoy! I sure did!!!!!

"May we count you 'IN?'"
@earthvisitor3 I was supposedly hired to lecture economics, law & business English there in October, very late -- semester already started. They dropped me for no reason & I went there today & calmly threatened them. I don't know if or when or how much I will be paid, & Villetaneuse waited until my last class to drop me -- without ever formally engaging me! This is SO illegal! I told them today, I am putting up vids about this! It is just disgusting! THEY WOULD NOT DO THIS TO A MAN!

@earthvisitor3 Around the University is very bleak, beside a highway and with ugly train tracks on the other side, but in the distance, you can see La Défense, and it is fun to go down into the cemetery there and walk around! You never know around Paris . . . Asnières has some of the most charming neighborhoods and the prettiest buildings, and there are these SLUMS all around! Nanterre was where massive shantytowns were up until the 1960s, also there were many in Saint-Denis and now new ones!

@slobomotion
I have driven through Nanterre many years ago and i found it lovely there...did you have to lecture there then ?
What better way to find out all the gossip then from a taxi driver lol...
I have a Mercedes as well.....

@earthvisitor3 I went to Nanterre today for my dumb meeting with those screwheads. I insisted they pay me for the whole semester, and demanded they send me home in a taxi at their expense. It turned out to be a Mercedes! I had a nice chat with the driver, who listens to a lot of the hoi polloi in his fancy car. Count on a taxi driver for the lowdown on everyone and everything! I have no idea when I will get paid, however, nor how much. sigh!

Posh taxi huh thats sounds ideal to me and not costong you a cent cant be too bad lol...i thought that those initials had something to do with engineers anyway as i wrote previously that you must have been thrilled to bits you lucky person ...

@earthvisitor3 I didn't so much have a chauffer as I was able to phone a posh taxi company they preferred, and they waited for me and paid the driver cash on the spot. I never saw such good tippers! I forget what ELAC stands for but it is European something. ICE stands for Institution of Civil Engineers, which is worldwide, and ELAC are the Euro-engineers. Many top females there! I have a lot of vids up on this and should post more. I was flying high but had to behave!

@earthvisitor3 I know what you mean! This was the end of a whole week of first class lectures, symposia, receptions, private tours, five-star meals, chauffeurs . . . and before I left the hotel, my sponsor for my Partnership with ELAC asked me to try to limit my room expenses to 1,000 euros! For six nights! (I did, but it was close.) I learned a lot about civil engineering, actually. 2010 was horrible for me, so it was nice to have this "high point!" I was agog!
