Thank God the boy survived and the mother was able to be united with him. Everything worked out perfect. If the train had come one second earlier, the mother would have jumped on the tracks and gotten killed. So, again, thank God everything happened the way it happened.
About the mother letting go, I sympathize. We're just human beings. We're not perfect. Sometimes we don't think straight and make mistakes. So I don't blame her.

This is such a lucky escape!!!!! Amazing that the adults didn't follow the baby over the edge. I hope train platform design can be looked at...a downward slope away from track would be simple enough, wouldn't it? I use a wheelchair and can relate. I am relieved that the identity of the woman and baby are kept anonymous- very respectful.
