While on my jetski I found this gannet sleeping, caught up in a lot of fishing line.

Naturally I decided to jump in the water to see if I could catch it and the following video is the action that ensued.

  • Great video bro, the landscape looking so beautiful also! How hot is the sea you were swimming in ? But you did a great job and saved the birds life, thanx.

  • @Unnsteinsson Hey dude, the ocean was pretty warm its summer here. Well the start of it, I would say the water was pretty warm enough that I didnt really notice when I was in the water. I do have a top that is equivalent to a 1mm wetsuit. The landscape is pretty awesome out there. there are several islands outside of Auckland, this one was about 10km of the coast so the water is pretty clear and the rocks are pretty ruggered. Yeah I am sure the bird is so much happier. Cheers, John.

  • Great video. There is no pleasure greater than releasing a bird out of its misery like you did! Looks like a great place!

  • @sudhindrak Thanks, I felt pretty sorry for that poor bird. The fishing line was caught in its mouth and it couldn't get it out due to a sort of hook on the beak, around its wing and feet. So it felt great to free this massive bird.

  • You are lovely

  • @tunapaw Thanks. I think you would have done the same.

  • dinner!

  • You quite probably saved the bird's life- no way it could have eaten, or even hunted with its mouth effectively tied shut and wings immobilized w/ fishing line. Good work!!

  • ge could ahave been more gratfull lol

  • Good man! thanks for helping him out.

  • But they wet their nests!
