I had so many false starts and redone scenes, it's a little hard to judge how much productive time was consumed. I would guess it took a little over 4 months. Most of the time I was rendering the scenes, I was happy to finish 4 seconds of video per day. Typically I would spend a couple hours setting up each scene, and allow the render to run while I slept.
