This will be my last video on methods of execution. I have discussed hanging, electrocution and lethal injection, all of which I believe to be cruel punishments. Nitrogen asphyxiation causes no pain at all, and eliminates the struggling, gasping and choking common to cyanide gas executions. But you may be surprised at the reason that it is unlikely to be employed.

How about a bullet to the brain. Looks painless enough.
How about harvesting the organs while anasthesy is performed? At least it would make sense.

The best way of punishment would be "death of personality" as described in "Babylon 5".

@hailwindham I can see what you mean, but why be humane to someone who took a life without reason? Refer to my other comment, with painless executions, they'll be like, "Oh, I'll fall asleep and it will all be over. Why not do something that will end with that?" With painful ones, however, they should realize what will come and that will hopefully discourage them.

Executions aren't SUPPOSED to be humane, they are a form of punishment. Pain discourages people from doing things, so painful executions are the way to go. Set an example of what'll happen, and problem solved.

All the people I know whom are deserving of execution have not broken the law. I don`t knowingly know anyone that deserves execution as a result of breaking the law.

Even if states used nitrogen asphyxia as a method do execution, it wouldn't solve anything. Current methods are painless or nearly painless so there's no advantage there. Also, any execution, like any medical procedure, can be botched, so you don't remove the element of uncertainty there. Also I think that we're a little over obsessed with making this a completely painless procedure. What we use today isn't exactly boiling in oil or nailing them to a cross, but it is relatively swift and hu

@cff121 You may be right that even nitrogen asphyxia could be botched. Anything human can be botched, which is the reason that I oppose capital punishment entirely. The double conviction of Ray Crone (see google) proves that juries are sometimes wrong. Only post-trial DNA evidence cleared him of murder when he had been convicted by two different juries. I am against the death penalty however it is done. If we must have it, pain free is best, but as you said . . .

if you die from nitrogen asphyxiation are your organs fit and safe for donation? if so, how long does your heart have till it is rendered unfit for transplant
glennlopez 5 months ago
@glennlopez Since nitrogen is not toxic, I believe the answer to your first question is yes. I imagine that donated organs would have to be harvested immediately, as they are when people die in a hospital. No doubt surgeons would be standing by.

I do agree that if people are going to be executed, this sounds like the best way. However, I still don't personally agree with execution. To me it always just feels like lowering ourselves to the level of the person who did the crime and that we would be taking a better stand to not feel the need for revenge but to simply lock them up so they can't hurt anyone else.

@Kyasurin I have come to the same point of view. The US is currently alone among the civilized nations in killing its own citizens. We are now aligned with such human rights states as Iran and Saudi Arabia.
