On January 9, 2012, astronauts on the International Space Station took this amazing footage of the moon setting behind the Earth's limb. Air near the horizon is thicker, and acts like a lens. That bends the light from the bottom of the Moon up, squashing the Moon's shape as you watch!

This footage cover ten minutes of real time in just a few seconds.

  • Before I die, I would love to go to space

  • Its unfortunate that with a spacestation that cost in the 10s of billions of dollars range, it took them over 10 years to realize the PR value of putting a camera on it.

What they are doing here could be done with a 50 dollar hd webcam (~100g). They could have these all over the ISS if they wanted.

Big ups to you. Also why is this not known or made known by mainstream media? Also why only 1 view? Can i has view of the moon and other planets too? I know it's quite a bit to ask but it's the 22nd century damn it.

Damn it, where is my 24/7 ISS video stream?

  • @ytmoog thanx

  • @ytmoog unless you used two cameras with different exposure and superimposed one over the other (with masking).

  • @flyingex

The timelapse sequence was taken during the day when the earth was brightly lit, so the exposure time was too short to capture the dim stars.

For those to be visible you would need a far longer exposure time which would hugely overexpose the earth and moon.

  • they are here for tousand of years. they won't destroy this planet, this planet is one of most beautiful jewels in universe. They could destroy humanity though. Because we are destroying are planet. They operate in 5 dimensions, some of them even higher. Don't try to understand their logic and motives based on your gullible image of world, reality, universe. You simply can't come to any relevant conclusion. You can get closer to things what I'm talking about if you unlock your 3rd eye.

  • where is the stars????????????????????
