Charles Darwin, the British scientist, laid the foundations of the theory of evolution and transformed the way many people think about the natural world. But his ideas still have their detractors.

As the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth is celebrated, an evolutionary biologist, a creationist and a natural histrorian give Al Jazeera their views on his discoveries.

@Vapethis - To not sit on the fence one need only look at the provable evidence. Christians and any believer of a benign omnipotent omniscient being can never solve the problem of evil, a simple riddle of Epicurus that demolishes the belief. You've heard it, and if not Google it. You can't answer and none can, they can only employ sophistry to delay and avoid the question, and the answers given falsely always contradict that same God, it's painfully obvious to any non-believer.

@Vapethis - You think I am using tactics, why? Because I demand evidence? You want tactics, talk to a lawyer or an apologetic. When I say words they mean what they mean in the dictionary and what everyone normally says they mean. There is proof that people believed the Earth was a flat disc based upon the Bible, there is proof that early church leaders believed metaphor based on stories where commoners believed the literal. There are many dialogues, and you should read them.

@Vapethis - When the Bible metaphorically says that God created the Earth and the heavens, do the heavens not sound as an afterthought with the Earth being at least as significant. I can easily argue that it did, because Galileo was ostracized for his heliocentric theory because of beliefs that prevailed based upon the Bible. Why deny simple history? Easily provable history for that matter.

@Vapethis - I used to sit on the fence, and you are correct, I am way over the fence at this point, here's the thing though, I base my entire arguments on facts and evidence, and I'm willing to stake my entire life on it in the sense you believe. If you can prove to me that Jesus existed and performed miracles, or if you can even prove any miracle of any kind for that matter, I'll convert to your religion.

People want to believe what they believe and that is okay, but dont hold it at truth when it is so apparently impossible, Like Scientology by the fiction writer , Ron L Hubbard, spirit beings came to earth and fell into a volcano and were exploded into the atmosphere to be then reborn as humans or something like that, Were did the volcano come from as the earth is a floating magma ball and mother nature/evolution made it hold together by feats of incredible intelligence !!, beyond anything
