When skirmishes erupted following the disputed 2007 presidential election in 2007, schools were among the institutions worst affected. In Kibera slum, hundreds of pupils, whose education was disrupted, are yet to report back to school, a little over a year later. In the second part of the series, Hard Lessons, Jamila Mohammed broadly explores this and other issues.

  • Where is our mp of both this slum schools??? Hon. Prime minister Raila Odinga. What have you done for langata especially kibera the last 17 years you have been a MP; only burning and killing , uprooting railway in 2007-08. Surprised Ocampo did not name u !!!!!!!

  • these are the fruits of capitalism and above all power struggle. as one strives to reach the top. majority who are helpless are victims of struglle for the fittest, man for himself and God for us all.

    kudos NTV for this story.

  • BTW, the reporter I assume is Somalian. Sweetheart holla at me , i'm your Somali brother. I'll come through Nairobi soon, lets meet in Eastleigh babygirl..lool

  • Another example of African mismanagement and coruption. Its the governments fault. Do not argue with me on stupid argument such as these people are lazy. They are not lazy , their government has abandon them. If all the governments revenue was used properly and fairly that resources could go very far.

  • I disagree. It's a health hazard and Public Health should close down this school. These kids are picking more germs and diseases to and in school, exposed to nasty stressed out teachers that no amount of this crude education is worth it!

  • Lol who stole the headteacher's mobile phone.

But seriously I see no problem with these schools. Any school especially in poor Kibera is better than no school. These young people are hungry for education and thats why they are there.

  • I like that boy peeing anywhere', I would do the same if these crankies were my teachers, St. Augustus my school and my area MP Prime Minister Odinga. For how big is Kibera as a constituency? He can't even order TSC to send in trained teachers here? I am so annoyed I want to piss ANYWHERE Kibera CDF committee lives!

  • VISION 2030!!!!!
