Obviously organized, but most likely not sanctioned by the city, this massive group of Long-boarders shut down Yonge Street, Toronto for about 10 minutes on September 10, 2011.
Hilarious. What a crazy town.

  • yo, i respect what you're doing...but how's about being respectful to others while you're at it, as well. from my wife:

"call me old fashioned but I was pretty upset on Saturday when one of those guys ran the stop light on Young and Bloor nearly smashing into our 6 year old!"

...how's about applying for a permit or giving police some notice or perhaps have those in the lead notify and signal pedestrians up ahead that a crush of boarders is coming through, so everyone can have a safe, fun time?

  • @junkeeroo Hey, man. Glad your kid's okay.

So, I don't know, because I was just in my car watching, but someone in earlier comments said that the Police actually WERE informed about the Board Meeting, but they dropped the ball and didn't shut the street down. Towards the end of the video, you actually see two Bike cops riding behind the pack, looking mildly unimpressed.

  • @pb6458 There were many bike cops, they did help out and closed off some intersections for us, but it was a longboard takeover, to spread the awareness and acceptance of longboards as a means of travel and recreation. We didnt obey rules on purpose, we took over..and was it not cool? Maybe not to those sitting in their cars :P

  • @Apocalypse4162 Did you read the rest of the comments?

  • wtf i cant find my self

  • @RayneTacos15 If you were near the front of the pack, I may have missed you. I had no idea this was going on, so it took me a second to get my phone out.

  • thumbs up if you remember the guy in the pig suit!

  • @timgitt I seriously didn't care, brother. You guys were having too much fun to be pissed. Besides, I ride, too, so I was just glad to get a chance to see it.

I think a few drivers were annoyed, but most didn't give a shit.

see all

  • GO TO /watch?v=vziD__Sw9eE

  • @pb6458

    thanks.

they apparently did not give noticed. from the toronto star: "the organizers didn’t apply for a permit or give police any notice." Staff Sgt. Andy Norrie, “At this point, we’re not in a position to arrest hundreds of people,” Norrie said.

  • i was there :) i would of joined but i can never skate again :( .... fractured skull

  • @junkeeroo Once we got off of yonge the cops caught up and blocked the traffic and cleared the way for us. From what I know the point of a flash mob is not warning anyone though. Also we all ran all the stoplights on the way, except for the first one, we sat down in the intersection there for a few minutes... The people in the lead were wearing white shirts and a group of 1000 longboarders seems like it would be hard to miss as the go down a street yelling stuff. Maybe looking both ways helps?

  • 1:03-1:06 camo shorts! this was my 4th Boardmeeting! Boardmeeting!
