KCPT uncovers what is now being called, "the quiet crisis"... SCIENCE ILLITERACY. Kansas City wants to become a bioscience mecca, but who will fill all these promised new jobs? Fewer and fewer young people are going into science and there's growing alarm that America is raising a new generation that is scientifically illiterate. KCPT exposes the problem as Nick Haines hosts a Community Conversation, Science Illiteracy: The Quiet Crisis, featuring guests from the world of science, business and education.
people fear what they don't understand. Technology has for the most part become so advanced that the majority of Americans don't understand it. When people don't feel like they have control and power they think they can be taken advantage of. I think this is responsible for a lot of the mistrust present beetween scientists and non scientists.
