I am now up to three bays with 12 elements with the latest HD Antenna. I am back to using coat hangers and aluminium. Getting good signals but not enough to justify the extra bay so far.

I also dropped the size of the wire mesh behind the antenna this time. (This is a brand new antenna, I still have the above versions also) Less wire mesh may be the cause of average gains over the two bay antenna.

Nearly forgot to mention this one also Glows in the Dark
, I dabbed the tip of each element with Glow in the Dark
paint!

I am also going to remove 2 of the transformers out of the look and try that next. May also go back to a larger area of wire mesh.....

More on this project here.....

  • Now your reflector is too small. It should be just a bit larger (~5%) than the area of your elements because what you're doing is reflecting back to the element-- so those elements with no screen behind them are getting no help. So the idea in your lead text is correct. Nicely done using 12 bays --haven't seen that before. Know whart else I haven't seen? A second reflector behind the first. Think about it. Again, about 5% larger than the first reflector.

  • @notvalidcharacters Thanks good ideas. Will need to wait for spring now : )

  • I'M GLAD YOU DON'T LIVE BESIDE ME. I wouldn't want to have to look at that mess on top of your roof .Of coarse if you invited me over for beer and a good football game I could look the other way.

  • : ) More like a cup of tea here : )

  • Damn, you must get China's state tv with it!

  • antennas are simple and all the same in essence, think of signal as fish air as water and your antenna is a net to get more fish bigger is better!!!

  • @psb2usa Do you use 2 VHF/UHF Balun Transformers and a 2 signal splitter to connect an 8 Bay antenna? I want to build one, and need to know how it works? Please let me know!! Thanks.

  • @hailherrosner Just scanned in 42 channels here in the Twin Cities, mostly garbage, but you just cant beat HD TV from an off-air antenna. Hope to see you on the SatellitePlus.US forum!

  • @psb2usa How many channels do you get and how many miles can an 8 Bay reach out to catch signals? I built a 4 Bay coat hanger antenna, and I get 23 HD channels, I live in the Toronto-Buffalo region, I get NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, TCN, etc...., just curious if you can get more than 23 HD channels? I would love to build an 8 Bay antenna!!

  • Dude thats sooooo badass!!!

  • I hope you have that thing grounded...

  • @psb2usa, Can you use this antenna for shortwave radio?

  • @VintageWorkbench I remember the 300 ohm flat wire. What is a baluns. Im going to make one of these I live one hundred miles from Tulsa and OKC.
