Esther M. Sternberg, M.D.

Over the past decade, an increasing number of physicians and neuroscientists have sought to uncover the complex relationship between mind, brain, and consciousness as they continue to search for a more comprehensive perspective on the "self" and the workings of the human mind. Though much remains to be done, their findings to date have shed a more holistic light on our understanding of the elusive mind-body problem. Join our panel of renowned experts as they explain how new paradigms fueled by the latest scientific research are beginning to fundamentally alter how we perceive and relate to the physical world.

The symposium will also serve as the occasion for the formal launch of The Human Consciousness Project—a multidisciplinary collaboration of international scientists and physicians who have joined forces to research the nature of consciousness and its relationship with the brain. Led by Dr. Sam Parnia, The Human Consciousness Project will conduct the world's first large-scale multicenter studies at major U.S. and European medical centers on the relationship between mind and brain during clinical death. The results of these studies may not only revolutionize the medical care of critically ill patients and the scientific study of the mind and brain, but may also bear profound universal implications for our understanding of death and what happens when we die.

  • Vid. 3, referring to the hidden images NDErs should see if elevated looking at their body, P says:"I think its very unlikely that people will see these images, because it should not be happening. . Vid. 4, referring to pilot study, P says: I can report that people have had NDEs within this group. I can say that the pilot phase was successful, and we're getting the sort of data that we'd expect to be getting." Isnt he saying that no one in the pilot study saw the hidden images?

  • He's reaffirming the perspective of mainstream medicine, putting context to just how much this study will shake our understanding of the nature of consciousness to the core.

The pilot study is in fact providing positive results, with a number of resuscitated patients reporting accurate information that would be impossible to obtain unless the nature of the consciousness is non-local.

  • This would be incredible. Would change everything entirely. Itll change everything. That would be great.

  • It really would be. People have these experiences all the time, and to have a collection of physicians literally monitoring this situation will yield some very interesting results, in the eyes of empirical science.

  • @anewpersonalparadigm You mentioned that Dr. Parnia's Aware study provided positive results. Do you have any updates on the study? Are you involved with the study? This is all fascinating and I'm anxious to hear more. Thank you.

  • @anewpersonalparadigm just out of curiosity howd did you get early info and what is being found? Thanks!

  • mx22, I agree. I find it hard to believe that Parnia, who I believe has written books and who I think is of the opinion that conciousness is seperate of the brain, would come before the world in a sense and announce this huge study if nothing positive happened in the pilot, but maybe I am wrong, did he have to go through the whole study even with a pilot with no positive results? any one know?

  • Without positive results during the pilot, there wouldn't be any problem to study during a large scale study. I don't want to say that NED is true, but a large scale study is only justified if you already have something in your hands.

  • Allright. I appreciate the openness of your mind :)

    Peace

  • I stand corrected. Since I've written this post, and done some further reading about Persinger and his research, I realize that certain elements of the NDE were not simulated with the "god helmet". In fact, Persinger, who's an admitted atheist, claims that he has detected evidence of verifiable ESP during his experiments!? That said, the helmet can produce many of the experiences reported by NDE experiencers, drug users, mystic, etc. I'm completely open to both sides of this issue.

  • Lul WAT?

Show me one example of the God helmet reproducing "almost every aspect" of an NDE ;D

  • Essishunbe...if your money is on oblivion and haven't seen enough to sway you then you haven't studied things as deep as you think you have...NDEs are only part of the evidence...the evidence is the size of a mountain range...and by the way, if you WANT to believe, that's good. You WILL believe the second it happens to you...it happened to me. You'll realize you are not in the body and still able to turn, think and function. You WILL believe. Respectfully, a FORMER non-believer (that's me)
