They loved each other like brothers, but then Orion (their dad) decided to teach Sirius a 'lesson' that he wouldn't forget :( "just like I did your brother" he beat up Sirius, and regulus was in the room at the time, and he left sirius, and then their bond kinda got fractured and they grew apart as regulus continued to study horcruxes :'(
