"Sweet Mystery"

THE SCENE:
I went to St. James.
I entered into the cathedral.
To the Shrine of Mother Mary.
The mother of Jesus.
I lit a candle.
Genuflected.
Then on both knees,
beneath her,
I prayed to her...
And asked for her blessings
and grace.
As she was the most pure of all women.
Nurturing and giving birth to Jesus.
And making God man...
She must have been special right?
Being the mother of Jesus, she also must have suffered
during his torture and murder.
I ask her to pray for those who are in pain and in suffering.
Something she knew about.
She said... she understood.
And I asked her for answers...
She said in due time...
I then kissed her feet with my humble lips.
And I thanked her...
from the bottom of my heart...
Knowing that she is much greater than .
how she is symbolized and portrayed in this beautiful statue before my eyes.

THE SONG & LYRICS:
I knew I'd find her near the marble steps.
I turned the corner. I tried to get near.
Through the doors I entered. Across the threshold.
I dipped my finders. In the water.
By the candle light she stays.
Her feet are bare and there I lay down all my prayers.
And hope some day. My kisses will be answered by her grace.

She'll remain my sweet mystery.

She was right by heaven's stairway.
Don't think she don't care. I'm so far down here.
Put her on a pedestal. Like a statue .
Then I think she said. I'm here just for you .
By the candle light she stays.
her feet are bare and there I lay down all my prayers.
and hope some day.
My kisses will be answered by her grace.

She'll remain my sweet mystery.

(guitar solo)

She was right by heaven's stairway.
don't think she don't care.
I'm so far down here.
Put her on a pedestal like a statue.
Then I think she said. I'm here just for you.
Some day I 'll look right in her eyes.
Make no mistake that's when I think I'll fly
As you reveal all that you mean to me
Don't you disappear.
Don't tell me this is just my dream...

She remains my sweet mystery.

THE PRAYER:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

THE USE:
The Hail Mary is the essential element of the Rosary, a prayer method in use especially among Latin Rite (Western) Catholics, and that appears in the East only among Latinised Ukrainian and Maronite Catholics. The Rosary consists traditionally of three sets of five Mysteries, each mystery consisting of one "decade" or ten Ave Marias. The 150 Ave Marias of the Rosary thus echo the 150 psalms. These meditate upon events of Jesus' life during his childhood (Joyful Mysteries), Passion (Sorrowful Mysteries), and from his Resurrection onwards (Glorious Mysteries). Another cycle of mysteries, called the Luminous Mysteries, is of comparatively recent origin, having been proposed by Pope John Paul II in 2002. Each of these Mysteries is prayed as a decade (a unit of ten), consisting of one Our Father (Pater Noster or The Lord's Prayer), ten Hail Marys, and one 'Glory Be' (Gloria Patri) (Doxology).

The Hail Mary is also the central part of the Angelus, a devotion generally recited thrice daily by many Catholics, as well as some Anglicans and Lutherans.

DISCLAIMER:
There are many ways to look at the world and the universe. Through science, and religion are only two that come to mind immediately. This song simply honors one religious tradition. One that I don't even wholly follow but that I am a part of and one which has guided me from childhood. This should not separate us who believe in Christ or God or the Highest Power. We are all children of God and we are all neighbors. We are all brothers and sisters and should all live to understand one another despite our differences. This is what I believe. I don't think you need to belong to a particular church for sanctity, salvation, grace, etc, etc. but The Bible does say: "Where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." I take this to mean people should honor, worship or pray together to have more meaning. I have always thought that the Catholic religion and the Holy Bible and the various quotes have always been a mystery. Often contradictory and at times impossible to rationalize. I came up with the title Sweet Mystery before I even knew anything about the "Mysteries" I pulled off of Wikipedia above. I only researched this after a few people disapproved of my song for one reason or another. I have tried to share with you a part of my personal belief and have tried not to claim any kind of righteousness. I have been taught many ways to view our world, our universe and so have you. I simply chose to honor the tradition of one school of religion through which I have been taught about the glory & mystery of God. Please remember that I try not to forget that I must and I do respect what you have learned and your point of views also.

-Peace!

  • Fantastic tune, lyrically and melodically.

And here's to you Johnny for having the COURAGE , FAITH and TALENT to write a meaningful song about something you believe in.

It's amusing that really seems to irritate a lot of closet critics with empty comments, but I'd say that means you've hit the spot.

The mysteries of faith run deep, and who really knows the whole picture, only 'One' , I'd say.

    Cheers and God Bless you!

Thank you Deltablues! I'm really surprised at how much judgement and onslaughts of accusations I am receiving as an idol worshiper. Woe to me!!! I simply honor the Virgin Mary. To understand Jesus I think you'd have to understand where he came from. I don't even need to quote the Bible on that point. Don't you think?
