Down the road, BOTH ARE AMAZING BANDS! I gotta say System of a down got me into Metal and Rock in general, and Avenged Svenfold is just as amazing as SOAD.

To be honest, I love both bands,and they are both really really good and talented. The only difference is that I've listened to A7X for longer. I still love both of them.
