  • he was writing the Pale King at this time so all the references to Economics makes since in context

  • Awesome truths he spoke. Truths that surely will make some uncomfortable, and others a little more enlightened.

  • Today, is the first time I am dealing with David Foster Wallace. I have seen the Charlie Rose interview, read the "This is water" essay and now this video. Right now, there is no other person in history that I would like more to have a conversation with than him. I am really feeling connected to this guy.

  • He says that advertising functions on some level by appealing to a cultural sense of depression/boredom and filling that gap with products. Is there scope for a meta-analysis of advertising as systematically excluding goods/services that can actually produce happiness in order to maintain fertile ground for advertising?

  • hers is one smart turkey

  • Brilliant when he turns the question back to her wanting to really know what she thinks and listens.

  • The tiny stutter just makes him sweeter.
