Repeated listening continues to deepen my conviction that, after #1's “protean monster” (OM’s words!) the contrast couldn’t be stronger in this gem of a free-form miniature with its mix of birdsong, Hindu rhythms, complex neumic manipulation, and harmonic/timbral colors. You need not know any technical details to enjoy it. What remains reverberating in the abrupt silence ending all this atonal unpredictability is the ghost of a D-major chord... reflect on the subtitle "Through a Glass Darkly."
