William Felton "Bill" Russell (born February 12, 1934) is a retired American professional basketball player who played center for the Boston Celtics of the NBA. A five-time winner of the NBA Most Valuable Player Award and a twelve-time All-Star, the 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) Russell was the centerpiece of the Celtics dynasty that won eleven NBA Championships during Russell's thirteen-year career. Along with Henri Richard of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens, Russell holds the record for the most championships won by an athlete in a North American sports league. Before his professional career, Russell led the University of San Francisco to two consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association championships (1955, 1956). He also won a gold medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics as captain of the U.S. national basketball team.

  • Most underrated NBA player in history as many of his defensive statistics weren't even recorded.

  • The Muhammad Ali of Basketball

  • He hasn't changed one bit

  • Bottom line - better than anyone in the history of sport, Russell instilled in his teammates the knowledge that they just..? they could win every game.

Some say Boston was stacked with HOF players. No one came to the Celtics as HOF player, after playing with Russell that they left HOF players.

Jordan (and a few others) would love to play him 1on1 but only a fool would want to play any team Russell game 7 of a championship.

A Bill Russell team, is Jordan's nightmare, and Phil Jackson's too.

  • @sixarmedfreak99 as a fan I would like a show. As a player I would like a championship.

  • @baroh2413 tell me, would u rather get a show, or a championship?

  • and?

  • Yes.. but then it would matter as little as the national curling league of Spain

  • there would still be an NBA if no one watches. Believe that!

  • No.. but if no one watches there, in the end there will be no NBA... and no he is not underrated... how many players from his era are still remembered like that.. not many
