1990 ford ranger 2.3L inline 4, manual transmission

Ive changed the Fuel pump, Fuel filter, all spark plugs, spark plug wires, both ignition coils, the Icm, Battery, battery cables, cleaned the IAC, cleaned throttle body, cleaned Maf sensor, changed the TPS, and cleaned the EGR valve.

When idling there is not knocking sound or any bad sound just the rpm jumping down then up when acceleration.

but when put in gear (any gear) and accelerate. truck shakes, knocking noise is heard, and feels like it wants to stall. when shifting rpm go down to 500 and start back up unless i shift at high rpms but knocking is still there.

Need help. engine light comes on when this happens but then turn off. i pulled the codes but sometimes it doesnt show the same codes so idk. after i cleaned the egr valve the car now stays on as you can see. before it was even hard to start and keep idling now it stays on more time but still dies after long time

Ok so codes usually present are code 18 erratic idm input to processor/spout circuit open... And operator error cylinder balance test.

i dont have any vacuum leaks and fuel pressure is good.

Im thinking its either the EGR Valve or the IAC sensor. but they are expensive parts.

anyone have any suggestions please help.

  • You probably going to think I'm crazy I have a 94 did the same thing. But pull the max flow air sen out of air intake tube - next to air cleaner elm clean it with brake cleaner- only this will stop the spark knock and com light coming on.

  • something is advancing the timing to far, could be out of timing, bad advance, or bad timing sensor, check your cats to

  • it could be the flux capaciter... check that!

  • MAf sensor

  • CHECK YOUR TPS AND YOUR CATALYC CONVERTER

  • when is doing that change the gear to a lower and see it keeps doing that?

  • The check engine came on so you have code present posting it will help in diagnosing the problem.

  • i agree crank position sensor

  • Check your crankshaft position sensor. May need to replace or simply adjust it. good luck.
