Combining fire fighter and police duties into public safety officer positions is an inefficient use of resources.

  • The cost is to great it doesn't pay...the lose of one life...is only a 6 to 8 minute window. Firemen and police officers have to do there job separate. Let the professionals do what they train for everyday. Remember if you cut public safety the next person may be your mother or child is it really worth it.

They have 6 to 8 minutes before life is lost.

  • In rural areas LEO/Emt's are critical to the fast response of medical help. Some rural area LEO's are able to be on to a medical emergency faster then a fire rescue service, which can improve the chance of patient survival.

  • (Read posts from bottom up plz) Do you know that most starting wages put the firefighter earning about half of the police officer and even less compared to PSO. Also PD is caple of making time and a half, double time, and special events pay. I make straight blended rate or at most time and a half at a regular straight pay. Don't know what I am talking about? learn it before you open your mouth again. Just remember it would have been easier, safer and I would make more if I worked like you.

  • (Read posts from bottom up) Would you be willing to have to continually go to school to keep up your certs so that you can get no sleep at night and go help that person that did something irresponsible and now is about to die? Are you willing to go to a scene that will be BURNED into your memory, into your nightmares for enough money to go and collect food stamps? I DO. I do it for you, John Q Public, and I am the one you dislike and want to get rid of?

  • One important note I think has not been discussed is the pay. First we do not do this to get rich but it is you, John Q Public, that makes it of great importance. Most career firefighters start with pay that is so low that they could go and get food stamps. Would you really go and but your rear on the line for ANYBODY? Would you go to school and have the tremendous school loans for such little pay? Would you continue to have to give up weekends, holidays, nights, birthdays, other special events?

  • Bet your ass we're scared rts797. Scared for you. Dumb asses like you vote down Fire Depts. and then shit your pants and whine when we aren't there for YOUR emergency. Fine, you get what you pay for, and I serve at the pleasure of the Taxpayer. But, what do you have against us!? My family isn't getting rich doing this and I work hard. Why do you hate us for wanting to help you in the best and safest way possible!?

  • @rts797 Yes I'm sure there have been fire departments that have made mistakes, but their whole reason is to be prepared for fire and emergency medical situations. Think of this, one night YOUR house catches fire. You rush to get your family out of the blazing inferno you called home. You were in such a rush to get out and call the PSO that you forgot one of your family members are still inside. Would you rather have a under prepared PSO to your rescue or a more prepared firefighter? Think on it.

  • Rts797. U will make an excellent city manager some day! Sitting safely behind a desk, sleeping in your own bed everynight, never risking your life for others. U must be proud. Get a clue and read the FACTS before you open your big mouth.

  • I'd have to say, delaying what has become an across the board standard in response times to police, fire, or ems calls for service is in fact scary. The video isn't talking about increasing the time it takes to bag my groceries at the super market. But, I'm sure you're an "expert" cop, fireman, and paramedic, so, you'd probably know best. Just like a politician. They know best, being that city politicians go to "work" two days a month behind a desk. Sarcasm? Yeah, i'm laying it on pretty thick.
