Carol Kaye is also trying to take credit for playing on "I Was Made To Love Her." That song exemplifies Jamerson's style. Ron Brown also played on most of the J-5 material up until the Get It Together album, when William Salter took over most of the bass chores for the J-5. Contrary to what folks believe, Jermaine did NOT play on any of their studio recordings. It's a damn shame, because I have a few rare J-5 live recordings and Jermaine is absolutely KILLIN it on the bass.
Can we PLEASE put Carol Kaye where she belongs? She did not play on ANY J-5 songs."I Want You Back" was played by Wilton Felder, as was most of their early hits. Jamerson played on "Darling Dear", "Who's Lovin You" and I believe "Never Had A Dream Come True" on the ABC album. Taking nothing away from Carol Kaye, but there are SWORN affidavits from the producers of those tracks stating that she didn't play on the master recordings.
