I have exactly the same problem with my cat. I have decided to buy a canvas one as maybe the plastic ones are so scary for cats because they can't see out of them as well! I hope your kitty adjusts to the associated 'vet trauma'. Another idea is to put in a blanket kitty has had since kittenhood so the smell is comforting.
