In response to the news I received of the terrible, senseless death of Jordon Whitley in the early hours of December 28, 2007, I put this video together in tribute to a father and son who never got the chance to grow together and share in life's experiences. Randy was an older brother of Keith Whitley's who was killed in a motorcycle accident in October 1983 at the age of 34 years, 10 months, and left behind a 2-year-old son. Keith was to pass away himself on May 9, 1989 at the age of 34 years, 10 months, and left behind a 2-year-old son, as well. The footage used here was captured during the 2002 Keith Whitley Memorial Ride, which is held every summer as a memorial to Keith and Randy, but has become much more in recent years. The song is "Hands of Time" by my friend Bill Arnold from his 2003 CD "One Lucky Man." Bill is also featured here singing an emotionally-charged a cappella rendition of "Go Rest High on That Mountain."

**UPDATE 8/4/08**--Bill finally has a Myspace page! Go pay him a visit!

  • This video puts a tear in my eye every time I watch it......

  • I still have no idea how Bill got through that as well as he did. I know his mind was on John when he sung that. He and John were tight. If you're not touched by that song of Bill's or by Bill's performance of "Go Rest High...," there's something seriously wrong with you.

  • What a magnificent memorial. I can't watch this without tears. Hands of Time is absolutely gorgeous and the version of Go Rest High is chilling.

  • You've put together a very good tribute to the Whitley family. I grew up with Mike (Dwight's son) and Nathan (Randy's son). I have known the whole family since childhood. When you grow up in a small county or community everyone knows everyone else, it makes it that much more difficult. I hope people outside of the area understand how hard on the family and community these unforseen events have been.

  • Thank you for the wonderful comments! Randy's bunch are the only members of the Whitley family that I have yet to meet. I've only talked to Mary for a couple seconds, I've talked to Flo the most. But they're all so nice!
