My communication is affected. iF your knocking at the door, I cant yell "come on in,the door is open"....especially now in the winter when it freezes and the person has to push hard to get it to open-which is why i have trouble getting out of the house-handit transit drivers take me out, or others who drop by to pick me up, but if there is snow outside that I cannot pass throgu, I cant make it to the bus anyways even if they open-but thats another story.
:)

This video is intended to help my future care givers, whom I believe will arrive some day,
to view how my house is generally set up. This way, the labels, and laminated instructional and informational cards provided will be helpful to those situations when I cannot tell you these things myself.
I want to live, to a certain point life has meaning, and it still does.
this is my way to try to make it easier to ease the strain on the communication inside the home-people can view these videos before coming-hopefully-and familiarize themselves with at least where to look for more info in the home when needed.
This is a work in progress, and the beginning of a long process. I have been authorised, and it has arrived in my town hospital, a Dynovox for a communication aid.
In the future, if I CHOOSE TO live that way, I may steer my wheelchair with various input devices through the help of this dynovox machine mounted to my chair.
until i learn to use it efficiently I wil rely on these forms of communication for clarification..

  • I am a nurse and I object to you "bashing "PSW's. They work their asses off and that is your appreciation?Maybe you have encountered a person that can't read or do anything period. Has nothing to do with PSW's..

  • I've never heard of the no plugging things in rule. Sounds bizarre to me also. Sounds like someone was being lazy or maybe I didn't read the handbook thoroughly enough...

  • I had one PSW say that she did not know how to plug in the hair dryer in the electrical outlet. I was shocked! Another one said they are not allowed to plug in electrical things like a hair dryer. I knew she was lying because it says right in their book that they leave in the house that they can only use electrical razors on male patients. So if they plug those in they can plug mine in. Without my hair being dry my arthritis in my neck becomes unbearable. Having a tough time in Sarnia, ON.

  • Good for you doing this video! What an excellent idea. I think I should do it too. The only thing is that many PSW's cannot read I have found.
