Rep. Gutierrez' Remarks on Puerto Rico National Gas Pipeline Project

April 14, 2011 - Continuing a series of speeches the Congressman has delivered on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on the civil and human rights crisis in Puerto Rico, Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL) today addressed a proposed natural gas pipeline project that is being pushed by the Governor of Puerto Rico and his party. The so-called "Via Verde" -- or "Green Way" -- is a 92 mile cross island project that has not received sufficient study or public scrutiny because it is being promoted as a response to an "energy emergency." Rep. Gutierrez announced he has filed a series of Freedom of Information Act requests for information from all federal agencies that have addressed the project and asked the Army Corps of Engineers to "to deny the permit request for the pipeline until experts testify, permits are applied for, community meetings are held, and environmental impact studies are done."

@luisanthony40 Obviamente no hemos llegado a esos extremos. Pero un gobierno donde tienen que declarar una "emergencia energética" para pasar el proyecto sin los permisos necesarios, un gobierno que aumenta el número de jueces en el supremo para tener mayor control, un gobierno que no deja a la oposición política manifestarse en el capitolio, un gobierno el cual ignoró por completo el voto por la unicameralidad no es necesariamente un ejemplo de la democracia. Eso cualquiera lo puede ver.

The US Army Corps of Engineers finally has decided to pay little attention to Gutiérrez' demagoguery and is preparing to authorize a solution to PR's 70% dependency on expensive, highly polluting foreign oil, while the Fortuño administration starts switching PR's generation system to renewables, including 600mw of wind and solar projects already under construction. Gutiérrez' demagoguery, in the meantime, has cost consumers $1 billion extra in fuel surcharges. Thanks a lot!

@Gabrieleex Ujum , Cosas Veredes , cuando AAV construia el gasuducto del sur Gutierrez no decia ni pio y aquel atravezaba comunidades , DONDE ESTABA GUTIERREZ???? ahhhhh ahora si es malo, Gutierrez se comporta como el peor enemigo de Puerto Rico el paga el servicio barato alla pero quiere que nosostros no sigan comiendo la facturas aca, Busca la lista de donantes de Gutierres((((Salio en la prensa))))) esto es una agenda paga por el PPD pura politiqueria, las dos varas de Gutierrez.

@gambito0025 Entiendo que si nos representa. si consigues un video de el apoyando los gasoductos en los EU enviamelo aun no lo e encontrado. Aun haci, hay una gran diferencia entre un gasoducto en los Estados que en PR, por que no llevar el gas directo al lugar? por que hacerlo? no saldria mas barato que sea enviado directo al lugar en vez de al SUR?
