http://www.drlouisehart.com (8of 8) A perfectionist is someone who takes great pains, and gives them to others.

Perfectionism is a booby trap for children and parents alike, and especially for women. Perfectionists always look for faults and failings; they never feel good enough; they end up doing the work themselves; they suffer from low self-esteem. But there is hope! Hart can help you become a "recovering perfectionist." The finale is a fun activity which can enhance well-being and good feelings in your family. There is a chapter on perfectionism in each of her books, The Winning Family, and On the Wings of Self-Esteem.

  • You ARE okay!

    You ARE good enough!

You are not perfect; nobody is.

You have to change your mind and stop pretending to be perfect....

I'm a recovering perfectionist; you can be too—IF you work on it and change your mind/ thinking.

My book, On the Wings of Self-Esteem can help you!

Play more. Be silly. Have fun.

Life will be wonderful IF you do your work now to change your mind. Do it!

  • I'm a perfectionist, and I wish I could stop! It's terrible. Life is horrible this way. All there is is disapointment. I find, I'm afraid to do things I once loved to do, because I know I wont be satisfied with the end result, so I don't even attempt it, even though I know everyone who knows me would be impressed. It's got good enough to ME, so I CAN'T do things anymore. Life is a hell when you can't stop worrying about everything.

  • Perfectionism is giving me a massive amount of stress. I feel as if I am too young to be a perfectionist (14, have had it since 13) however I have every single "symtom" stated

  • being a perfectionist, damage one's self esteem, life is not perfect, putting your pusre on the eating table, is quiet normal.

  • Forget what people are saying about perfectionism. Going beyond the realm of reality is the reason we have a computer today, which perfectionists tries to do. No one is perfect, but do not forget that perfectionism is what probably built the products that back then went beyond the realm of realism. Do not ever expect to be perfect, but use perfectionism as an advantage, it is a gift and you must use it to push yourself further than most people. Therefore, perfectionism is not a bad thing either.

  • Any expectation is possible, you just don't think it is. Perfectionism is a benefit, (especially the all around perfectionists). I'm a perfectionist, and i have so much stress and anxiety, which this is usually linked to. It also has been questioned if Albert Einstein had perfectionist. Pushing yourself beyond reality will give you the will power to do anything. Such as building an airplane in the 1700s and flying it. when people thought it was not even possible in reality.

  • Being "perfect" is too high because it is unattainable. Being better than you were yesterday is attainable. Planning and preparing to be better tomorrow than you were today is also attainable. You can head in the direction of being perfect so long as you know the journey is where the joy is. Being perfect is one step beyond reality.

  • This part is what basically kills her entire argument.

You can NEVER, EVER, EVER have 'too high' expectations.

  • im the opposite..but know a perfectionist, who runs into my life every so many years- finds me not perfect, still- and cant see my on going progress in life, and disapears..these kinds of people cant be pleased..so true..sad for them, cause if one looks for perfect people..you will only find self lonely. it must be self torture
