The town from where I am from in Ireland, Banagher in county Offaly. has two churches, the Anglican St. Pauls at the top of the hill, and the Roman Catholic Saint Rynaghs near it.
Below that I lived when growing up, and often its bell was wonky when rining the hour or for the Angelus at six and twelve... and it would go on and on an on an on...
But when it stopped working I missed it. An annoying friend can be the same, no? They annoy you when they are there, but you really miss them when they are gone...
Banagher of course is the town where Sir Jonah Barrington was from, and it used to be a poket borough, or rotton borough until the Act of Union in 1801.
It is also famous for its horse fair every September, and is the hometown of singer Johnny Mc Evoy.
The River Shannon flows through it, and its a goo spot for fighing of pike and bream and trout. The corncrake is often heard in the callowlands around the town, both on the Offaly side and the far Galway bank as well. An EU funded corncrake concervation scheme has yeilded results in recent years.
