One reason why Napster worked: Dispatch. I may have downloaded their music without paying origionaly, but once I listened I just had to buy their albums and support the band.

@RobertMProductions then they are supposed to say LOOSELY based on a true story

@manitobasuntanner The Social Network is BASED on a true story, meaning they can change/add events for the sake of drama/comedy.

Wrote my senior college paper in 2006 along the lines of this video. Wish I had this video when I wrote it.

It was really Napster's fault for not reaching out to music industry and making strides to stay within legal parameters, and even more the music industry's fault for not trying to work with napster. Youtube does virtually the same thing as Napster did except with movies

@ddouglas92 I work in the recording industry and a lot of people who work really hard to create music. Shouldn't they get paid?

@manitobasuntanner "Contrary to popular belief, Parker was not a co-founder of Napster, as depicted in the movie The Social Network and post-Napster news articles, but rather an early employee as detailed in contemporary literature." -Wikipedia

@crashdog5866
They should. The people in this band work really hard and owe their success to Napster. By posting this video I’m not saying never buy music, but it makes an interesting point about how file-sharing isn’t all bad. Particularly it gives a boost to independent bands that wouldn’t get promotion otherwise.
Ars Technica has an article right now about the boost file-sharing is giving to smaller and independent bands. Check it out.
