I think Alan Thicke thought if the character was embarrassed by the joke she would lose weight. I never had thought well of Alan Thicke since he went along with the script.

it's really hard not to hate her father for asking her if she knows how hard it is on him. making it about the pain YOU are causing THEM just makes you feel even more worthless.

For all those complaining about the scriptwriters, you've got to realise that they're attempting to write for a realistic family. Mike and Carol's relationship was based on them paying each other out consantly. It's what brothers and sisters do. She calls him stupid, he calls her fat...it was their bit. It's cringeworthy to watch retroactively,, now that we know what happened to Tracey Gold, but in the early seasons it was just stupid bullshit that siblings say to one another.

It's funny Kirk Camron had a huge bitch fit when his charater mike wasn't doing the most christian like things, he told the head of abc that the writer were promoting pronogphery (the girl juile was in Playboy) but yet he could be a good christian "brother" to have them stop targeting her and weight issues in the script. I mean this wasn't her first time dancing with devil she delt with before when she was 12 but this time it just came back bigger badder. so kirk camron is walking condriction

@manco82 Tracey Gold was never overweight. Not in my opinion, anyway. There were scripts where they made fun of her weight. Don't you realise how hard it is growing up as it is? Putting on a few pounds is what happens when you go from a child to an adult. She was NEVER fat.She clearly states here that the anorexia issues where her own. She didn't blame anyone.. It's tough for girls and women. Men don't seem to care.. Most of them are " porkers" to us your word - and they don't care.
