New York City's organic waste problem, which is responsible for the destruction of 700 sq miles of ocean's lateral area every year, may have found a solution in Urban Permaculture. This part of the video Bill Mollison tours a few of the urban gardens in NYC who transform the city's waste into compost and use it to build up the soil as high 4 feet off of the asphalt.3

  • It's definately a good start. The deep-seeded problem from which all of our other problems sprout is descartes' "man vs nature" paradigm. Ecological education, teaching children that their existence is dependent on natural, non-human processes, which are very delicate and require great care, is a very important aspect of facilitating the paradigm shift, but overall it has to be more comprehensive than that.

  • Hello everyone..if permaculture makes sense to you,,,then tell all who care to listen and then keep telling those who dont listen until they do

Its no good keeping it all to yourself...talk about it like its a top 40 song..and in the mean time get ur own garden happening,,clocks ticking..U are all gardeners...you just got lost in the concrete..for a few generations.

  • Ever since I was a child growing up in NYC area, I always wished that the rooftops were green with life.

It's up to people like you to get the schools to make it part of the curriculum, just like the town in France that mandated 100% organic food for lunch programs.

  • Gardening was the birth of humanity, its the reason why every single one of us are here on this Earth living how we are; because our ancestors decided to plant seeds.

  • Everyone should see this; all schools should include this in their curriculum everywhere. It is what the world needs now and reverse all problems of inadequate contemporary social structures.
