Secretary Mauro Hosts Hundreds of Students for High School Capitol Youth Day - Feb. 25, 2010

DES MOINES - Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro hosted hundreds of high school students for Capitol Youth Day (CYD) 2010 on Thursday, February 25 at 9:30 a.m.

CYD is an annual event held on two separate days (High School Day and Middle School Day) co-sponsored by Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro and the Governors Developmental Disabilities Council. CYD brings students to their State Capitol to promote civic engagement and help them gain a better understanding of the governing process.

The morning welcome program featured Secretary Mauro, Rep. Ako Abdul-Samad and Rik Shannon of the Governors Developmental Disabilities Council. Students then went to the State Capitol where they met with Secretary of State Mauro and state legislators. After having lunch, students toured the State Capitol, watched the legislative process from the Senate and House galleries and attended an afternoon rally.

Approximately 450 students from the following high schools attended the day's events:
