Ric drops the first line because they're playing to a pre-recorded tape. By starting late it would have screwed up the rest of the song's timing. I'm not saying all the music is pre-recorded, just some of the backing track. Notice the headphones on Dave's head. He has to stay in perfect sync with the tape. It's actually a good save by Ric.
