Based on the 1973 best selling thriller written by Morton Freedgood (under the pseudonym John Godey), The Taking of Pelham One Two Three was made into a feature film in 1974. Directed by Joseph Sargent, the film starring Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam, Jerry Stiller, Tony Roberts, Hector Elizondo and Doris Roberts, has become a classic to fans with its mix of humor, suspense, the performances, along with the unique 1970's New York setting in which it was made in.

The film was already remade in 1998 and once again, rather than Hollywood coming up with a new and original story to give to audiences, a new version is set for release later this year. Personally, I've gotten so tired of seeing Hollywood grab at any film that was successful, that told its story as well as it could and was embraced by audiences, just trying to remake it anyway. (why can't they just try to remake bad films and try to improve on them?) With the track record of recent remakes and how they've turned out my bet is this one will fall into the same category of boring and tired retreads that Hollywood continues to attempt. So I don't have any interest in this new version.

I decided to do this updated trailer for the original film. Maybe some fans of the original will appreciate it and possibly newer ones will get a chance to discover it. That's one good thing this remake hopefully will do - draw attention to the original film.

I initially wanted to use David Shire's great original score somewhere in here, but I didn't feel like it was working, abandoned that idea and used various tracks from Immediate Music.

I've already gotten the best compliment I could from this project. When I was nearing completion of it I showed it to a friend who was not at all familiar with the film. After watching it his interest was peaked and he said he was immediately going to rent it. At least that's one person who will be introduced to this great film.

  • I didnt think the remake was that bad but yes the original was better...I thought Denzel played the role of Garber well but Travolta was doing way too much. He didnt compare with Shaw's calm, cool demeanor

  • You are awesome.
