This is funny! My parents got this for me in the early 70s & (as a 7 year old kid) I didn't realize how different/inferior that this was from the actual Beach Boys. I wore this record out playing it along with my Funny Bone Favorites & Goofy Gold records!

These were just Studio musicians employed through Pickwick Records, for their

budget LP label, DESIGN. There was of course no such group as "The Surfsiders" they were simply paid as Session players with no future royalities planned ~ I had this LP as a kid, guess I paid about 79 cents for it - some sound-a-like LP's were better than others but I know the efforts displayed here were very lame - I think the people at Design Records could have put more effort into this release ~ A Lot more!

2 songs from that LP .. Surfin' and Little Deuce Coupe are rumored to have Lou Reed singing the lead since at that time he was one of the staff song writers at Pickwick records. But, it doesn't sound like Lou Reed to me.

A couple minor corrections:

1. The Ventures weren't a surf band but an instrumental RnR band who did one LP (among the 100's they released) titled Surfing.

2. The Beach Boys did have a saxophone, Mike Love played it ( if you want to call that playing).

There must be a bagillion of these for the Beatles as well. Maybe if Brian had a southern accent it would be closer...the question is, did they really not give a shit, or did they actually try to learn the songs and fail? Cause I've seen many a cover band fuck up those harmonies by singing the 3rd when they should be on the 5th note in the harmonies and so forth. It's not as easy as it sounds sometimes.
