In March and April of 2007, I traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal with my good friend and producer colleague, Marcy Walton, to shoot a documentary film about her experiences working with the people of Nepal, Non-Governmental Organizations and the country's orphaned children.

To say that kids face a daunting challenge growing up in a developing country like Nepal is an understatement. We witnessed a variety of struggles they constantly face, from the very basic like difficult living conditions, lack of basic nutrition and proper guidance.. to extremes such as kidnapping by the Maoist rebels, being sold into prostitution and drug addiction at ages as young as 6. As the children face incredible adversity, they also possess a freedom of spirit that overcomes everything around them. It can be seen in their eyes and the smiles that radiate on their faces everyday. Life is not easy but they also don't let it keep them down... As an American guy coming from a very comfortable life in Los Angeles, California, watching these children I was reminded of how lucky and blessed my own upbringing was.

Over the course of 30 days we shot nearly 40 hours of footage and in this short promo, you'll see just a smattering of what we got in the can. The film is currently in development as stories are written, footage is logged, further shooting is planned and completion funds are raised.

Marcy did an amazing job putting this project together. It took an enormous emotional and physical toll on her but as with all passion projects this was no different. It has taken Marcy 2 years of "distance" in order to approach this material and do it justice. She is a passionate and driven producer and the final film will no doubt be amazing.

Personally, I consider this project to be one of the most amazing and satisfying filmmaking experiences I have had thus far in my career. I hope you enjoy the music and images as much as I did while assembling them together!
